Beacons
Beacons are small devices that use BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) technology to transmit messages to nearby Bluetooth-enabled devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches. They have the ability to recognize devices based on their location or past interactions, allowing retailers to send targeted notifications to shoppers based on where they are in the store or what type of customer they are.
For example, if a returning customer walks in, the store’s beacon can send them a “welcome back!” message and if the customer passes by the footwear section and there is a sale, the store can notify them via a smartphone alert.
Beacons can also be used for in-store analytics, most solutions come with tools for measuring foot traffic, dwell time and more, enabling retailers to collect data and better understand their customers and store.
